Navy Ship Transfer Operations

How does the LSS work?

The LSS can be used during any helicopter hoisting mission. Operationally, the LSS will work with a simple procedure. In its charging station stored within the cabin of the helicopter, the LSS can be retrieved and applied to any cable or hoist system. The crew chief will grab the LSS and attach it to the vertical cable through a clasping mechanism. Through GPS and other sensors, the LSS arms deploy once in an area of free space. The sensors and control algorithms take over and, using a drone-type configuration, will counteract swinging in the opposite direction, mitigating all swing. Additionally, through an interactive display, both the pilot and the crew chief can position the load on command per operational needs. Upon mission completion, the system folds up and can be detached from the cable and stored for the next mission.
